By Belize Live News Staff: On Thursday afternoon, a shooting on East Canal claimed the life of 28-year-old Jahmy Belgrave. Reports are that Belgrave had just finished visiting his children at his family home when he was ambushed moments after leaving.
According to eyewitness reports, a gunman who appeared to have been waiting in the area opened fire as Belgrave exited the yard. Three shots were heard before the assailant fled the scene. Family members rushed Belgrave to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police responded quickly and processed the scene, gathering several expended shells, bullet fragments, and blood samples. Investigators believe the motive may be gang-related, as Belgrave had previously faced a charge for alleged affiliation with the George Street gang in 2023.
This tragedy marks another painful loss for the family. Earlier this year, Belgrave’s uncle, well-known family court driver Raymond Belgrave, died in a traffic accident. Police continue their investigations and ask anyone with information to come forward.
