By Belize Live News Staff: Police are investigating a poisoning incident in Orange Walk after a man was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital on Wednesday night. Authorities were alerted around 10:15 p.m., indicating that the man had allegedly consumed a toxic substance during a domestic dispute.
CIB personnel visited the hospital and interviewed relatives, who reported that tensions escalated earlier in the evening after a maintenance filing at Family Court. Around 8:00 p.m., a heated argument allegedly led the man to threaten that he would drink poison.
According to family members, he walked to a shed where he keeps farming tools, retrieved a gallon of Paraquat, and began ingesting it. Relatives intervened and managed to pull the container away. Despite refusing medical help at first, he was eventually transported to the hospital.
A doctor confirmed that the man was admitted for observation, and medical staff are monitoring his condition. Police continue their investigation.
