By Belize Live News Staff: Police in Orange Walk have classified as found property a quantity of suspected cannabis discovered inside a purple can hidden beneath debris in an empty lot near a location known for drug activity. The search took place on December 1, 2025, near the intersection of San Francisco Street and Fonseca Street.
Officers conducting a routine sweep of the area noticed the can tucked beneath broken cement blocks and other rubble. Upon checking inside, they found multiple small transparent plastic bags containing a green leafy substance believed to be cannabis. No one was seen in the vicinity at the time of the discovery.
The substance was transported to the Orange Walk Police Station, where officers used a digital scale to weigh the material. The total weight was recorded as 12.4 grams of suspected cannabis. The drugs were then packaged in an evidence envelope, sealed, labeled, and handed over to the exhibit keeper in accordance with chain-of-custody procedures.
Police say the area is frequently monitored due to ongoing concerns about illegal drug activity. They believe the cannabis may have been left behind to avoid detection during patrols, or hidden for later retrieval.
The case remains open pending further investigation.
