By Belize Live News Staff: A Carmelita Village mother and her 2-month-old baby are recovering after a violent confrontation reported at her home on November 30, 2025. According to the report made to Orange Walk Police, the woman said the incident unfolded around 8:40 p.m., shortly after her ex–common-law partner arrived to pick up their seven-year-old daughter.
The mother told police she stepped outside to hand over the child’s shoes when she noticed another woman—identified as the ex-partner’s current companion—inside the vehicle. She said she had repeatedly asked that the woman not be brought to her house. According to the report, the woman exited the vehicle and approached while the mother was still holding her two-month-old baby.
The victim stated she briefly looked down to check her infant when she suddenly felt a punch to her right eye. She said she felt immediate pain and attempted to shield her baby, but was struck two more times. Moments later, she heard her infant cry and noticed swelling forming on the baby’s forehead. The assailant allegedly returned to the vehicle and left with the child’s father without saying anything further.
The mother sought police assistance, and a medico-legal form was issued for both her and the baby. A doctor later certified both sets of injuries as harm. Police have since listed the female suspect as wanted for questioning as the investigation continues.
