Belize commits to global inclusive insurance standards with endorsement of Cape Town Declaration

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize has formally endorsed the Cape Town Declaration on Inclusive Insurance, signaling a renewed national commitment to improving insurance access for vulnerable and underserved populations. The endorsement, made by the Supervisor of Insurance and Pensions, reflects Belize’s alignment with global best practices for inclusive financial systems.

OSIPP’s commitment includes active support of the declaration’s five high-level goals, which focus on innovation-friendly regulatory frameworks, strengthening data systems, aligning insurance initiatives with national development goals, fostering public-private collaboration, and sharing national lessons at regional and international levels.

The Office emphasized that inclusive insurance is essential to national resilience, especially as Belize faces increasing climate-related, economic, and social vulnerabilities. By endorsing the declaration, Belize aims to improve usage of insurance products that protect households, small businesses, and at-risk communities.

The endorsement also reinforces ongoing efforts to modernize Belize’s financial sector through more effective oversight, data-driven policy, and improved market engagement.
