By Belize News Staff: Even before the UDP convention begins, another headline is already forming: Will John Saldivar make his comeback?
Despite past controversies that damaged the party’s public image, Saldivar appears to be positioning himself for the powerful role of Chairman. For some delegates, his return represents experience and organizational strength. For others, it’s a risky step backward just as the party attempts to rebrand itself under incoming leader Tracy Taegar-Panton.
This dynamic sets up a delicate and potentially explosive moment. Taegar-Panton’s leadership could be overshadowed if old power structures remain intact. The UDP must decide whether it truly wants renewal or if it’s comfortable repeating the patterns that cost it so much political ground.
Sunday’s vote will not only determine the party’s leadership, it will signal its identity for the future.
