Ministry of Agriculture receives advanced equipment package to strengthen Belize’s agricultural data system

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries has received a major boost in its data-collection capacity through an advanced equipment package provided under the KOICA-funded project “The Enabling of Belize’s Statistical System.” The initiative, implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), aims to modernize agricultural monitoring and enhance Belize’s national reporting capabilities.

As part of the project, representatives from KOICA, FAO, and the Ministry conducted a field visit to observe the technology in action. Demonstrations included real-time data collection using CAPI devices, drone-assisted crop surveying, and the processing of collected information through specialized analytical software. These tools are designed to improve the accuracy of agricultural statistics and streamline national data management.

Following the field testing, officials held a handover ceremony to officially present a Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) and trailer, both critical additions to the wider equipment package, which also includes drones, digital survey devices, and modern data-processing software. The Ministry says the new equipment will greatly enhance mobility and monitoring in remote agricultural zones.

According to officials, these upgrades will directly improve evidence-based agricultural planning, strengthen food security, and support more efficient national reporting aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Ministry expressed its gratitude to KOICA and FAO for their continued support and commended its technical teams for leading the implementation efforts.
