Car catches fire on Sapodilla Street in Orange Walk

By Belize Live News Staff: Orange Walk police responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Sapodilla Street. Upon arrival, officers observed a white Volkswagen Jetta, license plate C-14591, parked facing Mahogany Street with smoke coming from the engine bay.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the vehicle had been parked earlier by Erwin Torres, 39 years old, Belizean, self-employed, of Rain Tree Drive in Orange Walk. Torres reported that after dropping off his niece at Louisiana School, he returned to the car and attempted to start it when smoke and fire erupted under the hood.

Fire personnel arrived shortly after and extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported, and the value of the damaged vehicle has not yet been determined.

Torres was advised to visit the Orange Walk Police Station along with the vehicle’s owner, Sureidy Torres, to file an official report. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
