By Belize Live News Staff: A grieving family is demanding justice after Dawn Bernard, 61, lost her fight for life just days after being allegedly set on fire by her much younger partner. While the accused, Frederick Wagner, reportedly claimed that Bernard inflicted the burns upon herself, her family is calling that narrative a lie.
Speaking off-camera, a cousin of the deceased described Bernard as a “sweet person” and expressed confusion over how the suspect re-entered her life. “I know my cousin had already left this young man and all of a sudden he appeared back,” the cousin told reporters.
The family vehemently rejects Wagner’s version of events. “My cousin is not that crazy to burn herself… my gut is telling me my cousin did not burn herself,” the cousin said, fighting back tears.
The tragedy has left the Lake View Street community in shock, as they mourn a woman whose life was cut short in one of the most horrific ways imaginable.
