By Belize Live News Staff: A Caledonia Village man is undergoing medical treatment after reportedly ingesting a highly toxic chemical during a late-night domestic dispute.
Police say the incident happened around 11:07 p.m. on Saturday when a woman contacted authorities with an urgent call for help. She reported that an argument between her and her partner escalated, leading the man to lock himself and his family inside their home.
He then reportedly went to a nearby garage, retrieved a container of Paraquat, a dangerous agricultural herbicide, and drank some of it.
The man reportedly collapsed into a hammock and began vomiting as the chemical took effect. Acting quickly, the woman forced open a window and transported him to the Northern Medical Plaza, where he was admitted for emergency treatment.
Paraquat poisoning is considered life-threatening, and medical personnel are closely monitoring his condition.
Police investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances behind the incident.
