By Belize Live News Staff: A major overhaul of Belize’s motorcycle licensing system is on the way, with the Government preparing to enforce a mandatory two-week training course for all riders, costing an estimated $300.
Transport Minister Dr. Louis Zabaneh says the move is necessary following a troubling spike in motorcycle crashes and fatalities across the country. The new course will become a legal requirement for anyone seeking a motorcycle licence and is expected to include classroom instruction, road safety rules, riding drills, and defensive-riding training.
“Too many Belizean families are losing loved ones to preventable accidents,” the Minister said. “Training is not an option anymore, it’s a must.”
The Ministry is expected to reveal the official rollout date once the updated regulations pass through the National Assembly. Riders without the new certification will not be allowed to obtain or renew motorcycle licences once the policy takes effect.
