By Belize Live News Staff: Police are investigating two unrelated murders that unfolded within an hour of each other on Friday night, leaving families in Dangriga and Belize City devastated.
The first killing occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Rear Pine Street in Dangriga. Officers arrived to find 27-year-old fisherman Oscar Williams Jr. dead inside the lower flat of a two-storey cement house. He was seated on a sofa with multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators say Williams was inside his home with his young child when a masked gunman, dressed in dark clothes, approached the open doorway and opened fire. The shooter fled immediately down the street. Police recovered three slugs, two metal jackets, and fourteen expended 9mm shells from the scene.
Less than an hour later, Belize City police were called to Castle Street after reports of shots fired. There, officers found 36-year-old Byron James lying motionless in the yard of his family home.
According to initial reports, two masked men entered the compound through a north-side fence and ambushed James, firing several shots before escaping the same way they came. A family member who heard the gunfire found him moments later.
Both investigations are ongoing, and police have not announced any suspects or motives.
