By Belize Live News Staff: The Belmopan City Council is tightening enforcement against residents who keep or graze livestock within city limits, citing public safety and environmental concerns. The Council’s Public Notice, issued on November 6, 2025, reminds residents that keeping livestock such as cattle, pigs, goats, and horses in residential or public areas is against the law.
Under the Belmopan City Council Act, Chapter 86, offenders may face fines up to $200 or imprisonment for violating municipal livestock regulations. The by-law also holds violators responsible for any expenses incurred by the City in removing the animals.
Officials said the measure aims to reduce health and safety risks, including accidents caused by stray animals, property damage, and unsanitary conditions. The Council urged all livestock owners to move their animals outside the city boundaries immediately.
“This is about keeping Belmopan clean, safe, and family-friendly,” the Council said. “We appreciate the cooperation of all residents in upholding these standards.”
