By Belize Live News Staff: Two men lost their lives in separate motorcycle accidents on Saturday, as fatal road incidents continue to take a toll on Belize’s highways.
The first crash occurred in Cayo District, claiming the life of Gerson Fuyub. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero, Fuyub was riding his motorcycle when he lost control and crashed into a cement structure. He was taken for treatment but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
When asked if Fuyub may have been intoxicated, ACP Romero said that toxicology tests will be conducted following a post-mortem examination. It was also unclear whether the victim had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
In a separate incident on the Hummingbird Highway, between miles 48 and 49, another motorcyclist, Jorge Gonzalez, also lost his life. Police say Gonzalez lost control of his motorcycle, fell to the street, and suffered critical injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.
Authorities continue to investigate both accidents, as road fatalities involving motorcycles remain a growing concern across Belize.
