By Belize Live News Staff: The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW), with support from UNICEF Belize, hosted a National Validation Workshop for the National Community Health Strategy (NCHS) 2025–2030 in Belmopan on November 3, 2025.
This workshop follows the first-ever National Stakeholder Forum held in August and aims to finalize the five-year strategy, which will guide the work of Community Health Workers (CHWs) under the Health Education and Community Participation Bureau (HECOPAB) program.
The NCHS will act as a roadmap for improving health at the community level, focusing on maternal and child health, non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, communicable diseases including HIV and tuberculosis, as well as mental health and climate-related health challenges.
During the workshop, stakeholders reviewed and provided feedback to ensure the strategy is feasible, sustainable, and aligned with Belize’s vision of equitable health and well-being for all.
Among its key objectives, the NCHS outlines eight overarching goals to strengthen community engagement, build resilience to climate and environmental hazards, and improve health service delivery nationwide.
The session brought together representatives from government ministries, NGOs, civil society, development partners, CHWs, and community leaders.
