By Belize Live News Staff: The Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has received the Ambassador of Development Award from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in recognition of its outstanding contribution to Belize’s economic growth and sustainable development.

The award was presented today, November 3, 2025, during the IDB Portfolio Review Meeting in Belize City.

In its winning submission, the DFC showcased the success of its Global Credit Programme for Safeguarding the Productive Sectors and Employment (BL-L1037) and its Technical Cooperation initiative (BL-T1144). These programs have played a vital role in enhancing Belize’s economic resilience, particularly among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Among its key initiatives is the “We Empower” loan program, which provides targeted financial support to young women and men between 18 and 29 years old, promoting gender equity and youth empowerment in business.

DFC’s management said the recognition reaffirms the corporation’s ongoing commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, driving economic growth, and empowering communities across Belize.

The organization expressed gratitude to the IDB for the honor, emphasizing its mission to champion initiatives that create lasting impact and opportunity for all Belizeans.
