San Narciso Village celebrates opening of first community market

By Belize Live News Staff: Coinciding with the observance of San Narciso Day, residents of San Narciso Village celebrated the inauguration of their first-ever community market on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

The project was made possible through the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) under the leadership of the Minister of Tourism, Youth, Sports, and Diaspora Relations, Anthony Mahler, with support from Ramiro Ramirez, Corozal South West Area Representative and Minister of State for Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Solid Waste Management.

The new San Narciso Market, featuring 18 stalls, provides local farmers and entrepreneurs with a vibrant space to sell fresh produce, plants, and other locally made goods directly to residents. Construction began in early 2025 and was completed on October 24, 2025.

“This market will not only bring produce from farms to our tables but also serve as a gathering space for the community,” said Minister Mahler during the ceremony. “Culture and food are among the leading reasons why people travel today, and spaces like this help to preserve both.”

Other dignitaries in attendance included Florencio Marin Jr., Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government; Gilroy Usher Sr., Minister of State for Public Utilities, Energy, and Logistics; Alex Balona, Minister of State for Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise; His Excellency Gerardo Argote, Ambassador of Venezuela to Belize; and Mr. Idelfonso Acosta, Chairman of San Narciso Village.

The project aligns with the BTB’s ongoing efforts to enhance community-based tourism infrastructure across Belize. The new facility will be managed by the San Narciso Village Council, ensuring sustainable operation and local ownership.
