By Belize Live News Staff: Fair and comfortable weather will prevail across Belize today with only isolated showers expected, according to the morning forecast issued by the National Meteorological Service. Forecaster Michelle Augustine says that variably cloudy skies will dominate throughout the day with a few isolated showers or periods of light rain, mainly affecting southern areas tonight.
Moderate northwesterly winds of 10 to 20 knots will generate choppy seas and waves between three and five feet. Small craft operators are advised to proceed with caution. Daytime highs are expected to reach 84°F along the coast, 86°F inland, and 76°F in the hills, while tonight’s lows will drop to 72°F, 66°F, and 60°F respectively.
At 6:00 a.m., Hurricane Melissa was centered near latitude 26.8N, longitude 72.7W, approximately 605 miles southwest of Bermuda. The storm is moving north-northeast at 21 miles per hour and carrying maximum sustained winds of 105 miles per hour. Forecasters confirm that Melissa poses no threat to Belize.
The extended forecast for Friday and Friday night calls for fair and cool conditions with little to no rainfall, signaling a pleasant end to the work week. Sunrise was at 5:50 a.m. and sunset is expected at 5:21 p.m., while the moon will rise at 1:13 p.m.
