By Belize Live News Staff: U.S. Senator Rick Scott has warned Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro that his “days are numbered” as political and military tensions escalate across the Caribbean and Latin America — a situation closely monitored by Belize and other regional nations.
“If I was Maduro, I’d head to Russia or China right now,” the Florida Republican said during an interview with CBS published Sunday. Scott suggested that change in Venezuela could come from within or through external intervention, predicting “something’s gonna happen.”
The senator’s comments follow the arrival of a U.S. warship in Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday, part of growing American pressure on the Maduro government. Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed he had authorized CIA operations inside Venezuela, further heightening regional unease.
Scott also claimed that the fall of Maduro could mark “the end of Cuba,” declaring, “America is gonna take care of the Southern Hemisphere.” However, he acknowledged that American “war fatigue” makes the prospect of deploying ground troops “very difficult,” while leaving open the possibility of an international intervention.
In response, Maduro accused Washington of attempting to ignite “a new eternal war,” and announced the deployment of 5,000 Russian-made Igla-S anti-aircraft missiles across Venezuela to strengthen its air defenses.
Observers in Belize and neighboring nations continue to monitor the growing tensions as the U.S. increases its military and intelligence footprint in the region, raising concerns about stability and the potential ripple effects of any confrontation.
