Forecasters eye tropical wave, but no threat to Belize yet

By Belize Live News Staff: Belizeans can expect another beautiful day across the country today as mainly fair weather prevails. According to the National Meteorological Service, skies will be mostly sunny with a few cloudy spells throughout the day and cloudy at times tonight. Only isolated showers or thunderstorms are expected, with a few more possible over northern areas later tonight.

Winds will remain light and variable, creating calm and comfortable marine conditions. The sea state will be slight with waves between one to three feet—ideal for those planning early morning or evening coastal activities. Daytime temperatures will reach highs of 89°F (31°C) along the coast, 92°F (33°C) inland, and 80°F (27°C) in the hills. Tonight, temperatures will dip to 77°F (25°C) on the coast, 71°F (21°C) inland, and 68°F (20°C) in the hills.

In the wider tropics, a tropical wave located over the central tropical Atlantic is producing a broad area of showers and thunderstorms. Forecasters say gradual development is possible as it moves westward, likely crossing the Caribbean next week. However, the system poses no immediate threat to Belize at this time. The National Meteorological Service continues to monitor its progress closely.

Looking ahead to Saturday, cloudy spells are expected with a few showers or isolated thunderstorms, especially over the north during the morning and along the southern coast at night. Otherwise, most areas will experience generally fair and dry conditions.

Tides today include a high tide at 7:12 a.m., a low at 1:50 p.m., another high at 7:51 p.m., and a low again at 1:53 a.m. tomorrow. Sunrise this morning was at 5:46 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:29 p.m. The moon will set this afternoon at 3:16 p.m. and rise again early tomorrow at 3:24 a.m.

Forecast prepared by Crystal Rosalez of the National Meteorological Service.
