By Belize Live News Staff: Kenneth Flowers, widely known as “Big Tom,” was shot moments ago in Backatown, Belize City.
Flowers, once the reputed leader of the Backatown Gang, had in recent years sought to distance himself from the violence that once defined his name. Those close to him say he had turned his life around and was working to promote peace and unity within his community.
Details surrounding the shooting are still emerging, but residents reported hearing several gunshots just minutes before police arrived at the scene. Flowers was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Known for his commanding presence and influence in the city’s underworld during his younger years, Big Tom had become a voice advocating for change. In interviews and public appearances, he often spoke about the importance of giving Belize City’s youth a better path, one free from crime and retaliation.
Police have cordoned off the area as investigations continue. Officials have not yet released any information regarding suspects or possible motives in the shooting.
