By Belize Live News Staff: The Government of Belize has officially implemented the Free Movement Regime for nationals of Barbados, Dominica, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, marking another major step toward regional integration within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
Effective October 1, 2025, eligible nationals of these countries will now be allowed to live and work freely in Belize without the need for a visa or work permit. These individuals will be identified by an “indefinite stay” endorsement on their CARICOM passports.
In line with the policy, the Central Bank of Belize has confirmed that CARICOM nationals holding “indefinite stay” status will enjoy the same banking privileges as Belizean residents, making it easier for them to open local currency accounts and conduct business transactions.
Among the key changes announced:
CARICOM nationals can open local currency accounts without Central Bank approval.
Property and business transactions involving resident Belizeans will no longer require prior written notice.
Belizeans wishing to transfer funds for migration to the three participating countries must first obtain Central Bank approval.
The Central Bank emphasized that all financial institutions must continue to uphold anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CFT) regulations to protect the integrity of Belize’s financial system.
Officials say this move strengthens Belize’s role in promoting the spirit of CARICOM unity and supports ongoing efforts to enhance trade, employment, and financial mobility across the region.
