Teachers walk out at Corozal College over unpaid salaries

By Belize Live News Staff: Teachers at Corozal Community College and Junior College walked out of classes Monday afternoon after failing to receive their September salaries.

Students were sent home early, parents were notified, and the rest of the day’s classes were cancelled. Teachers say they will not return until they are paid, with reports suggesting salaries may not be processed until October 1.

BNTU President Nadia Caliz confirmed the union has received complaints and is monitoring the situation closely. She said ongoing glitches in the Ministry of Education’s payment system and late submissions from school management are part of the problem.

For now, the strike has left parents and students uncertain whether classes will resume today or if the protest will continue.
