Belize Port Authority rejects allegations of irregularities in vessel departures

By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Port Authority (BPA) has strongly denied allegations of irregular practices involving the departure and arrival of vessels that participated in the Legacy of Champions International Fishing Tournament in Roatán, Honduras.

In a statement, the BPA said its mandate is to ensure the safety of navigation in Belizean waters and to carry out statutory functions in full compliance with the law. Following a review of vessel documentation, the Authority confirmed that all clearances, fees, and inspections were properly conducted.

The BPA noted that the individual making the allegations, Jorge Aldana, was not a vessel master but a crew member. Records show the vessel’s master applied for clearance in San Pedro on September 9, providing all required documents, including a crew list naming Aldana.

On the vessel’s return on September 16, BPA officers conducted mandatory boarding and inspection procedures, collecting applicable entry fees and issuing official receipts.

The Authority said it “rejects and denounces” accusations of misconduct and reminded vessel operators that its procedures safeguard maritime safety, security, and compliance.
