Opposition Leader Tracy Taegar-Panton highlights importance of 80th UN General Assembly

By Belize Live News Staff: Leader of the Opposition Tracy Taegar-Panton today reflected on the significance of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which officially opened in New York and runs from September 23 to September 26, 2025.

In her statement, Taegar-Panton emphasized that the Assembly provides world leaders, including Belize’s Prime Minister, with an opportunity to strengthen cooperation on issues of global and regional importance.

She pointed to what she described as “big news” coming out of this year’s session, Palestine being allowed to participate as an independent state. She also underscored the urgency of the global agenda, highlighting the need to end wars, condemn genocide, address hunger, defend sovereignty, and mitigate the growing threats of climate change.

Taegar-Panton said she is particularly interested in hearing contributions from CARICOM and Central American leaders, noting that regional voices must play a central role in shaping global solutions.

The Opposition Leader concluded that Belize’s participation at the UN reaffirms its role on the world stage and its commitment to lending its voice to the search for peace, justice, and sustainable development.
