By Belize Live News Staff: Belizeans woke up to cloudy skies and wet conditions this morning as moist and unstable weather patterns continue over the country.
Forecasters say showers, thunderstorms, and periods of rain will be most active over the south and along the coast today and tonight.
An Excessive Rainfall Watch remains in effect, with the potential for 2 to 4 inches of rainfall in the next 24 hours. Authorities caution residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and prepared for possible flooding.
The Belize Met Service has also placed small craft operators under caution as occasional gusty winds and rough seas may develop around showers and thunderstorms. Winds will blow east to northeast at 5 to 15 knots, with wave heights of 2 to 5 feet.
Temperatures today are forecasted at 86°F along the coast, 88°F inland, and 79°F in the hills. Nighttime lows will dip to 77°F along the coast, 73°F inland, and 64°F in the hills.
Looking ahead, Thursday will start mostly cloudy with more showers and thunderstorms over coastal and northern areas before conditions ease into generally isolated activity in the afternoon.
The tropical Atlantic system under watch is expected to strengthen, though it currently poses no direct threat to Belize.
