Media and civil society unite in demanding release of Budna surveillance videos

By Belize Live News Staff: Pressure on the government continues to build as calls intensify for transparency and accountability in the abduction of Joseph Budna. Media houses, civil society groups, and political parties are insisting on the release of surveillance videos from Orange Walk and a full investigation into the role of law enforcement.

In a joint letter to the Prime Minister, Channel 7, Plus TV, and X-TV requested the immediate release of surveillance footage from government offices in the Banquitas area.

The Association of Defense Attorneys issued a statement demanding an independent and transparent inquiry, warning that the case raises serious concerns about human rights and the conduct of Belizean law enforcement.

The National Trade Union Congress of Belize described video evidence as disturbing, pointing to possible complicity by a police officer who appeared to have engaged with kidnappers instead of protecting a citizen from being taken. The union is calling for a Senate inquiry, full accountability, and consequences for those in leadership who may have attempted to mislead the public.

UNIBAM and the United Democratic Party have also spoken out, criticizing the government’s handling of the matter and backing the demand for the release of the videos and an impartial investigation.
