Belize to Host USD$20 Million Caribbean Sugar Refinery Joint Venture

By Belize Live News Staff: San Pedro, Belize – September 4, 2025. Sucro Limited and Santander Sugar Limited have teamed up to launch Caribbean Sugar Refinery Limited (CSR), a $20 million joint venture to boost sugar refining capacity in the region.

Backed by a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Belize, the project will see a modern refinery developed in Valley of Peace, Cayo, with operations expected to start in 2026. CSR aims to meet over 75% of CARICOM’s refined sugar demand and create hundreds of jobs locally.

SSL will run the refinery, while Sucro brings global distribution experience. Both companies say the initiative will promote food security, regional trade, and long-term sustainability.

Government officials hailed the project as a game changer for Belize’s sugar sector and the wider Caribbean.
