Belize imports $266.3 million in July, exports $61.2 million

By Belize Live News Staff: The Statistical Institute of Belize’s latest external trade release highlights a mixed performance for July 2025, with imports climbing and exports facing setbacks.

The country imported $266.3 million worth of goods, up by nearly $30 million from July 2024. Key drivers included the Commercial Free Zone (+$14.2 million), Manufactured Goods (+$4.2 million), and Chemical Products (+$2.2 million). Fertilizers, building cement, and galvanized steel coils were among the top items purchased.

Conversely, the Mineral Fuels and Lubricants category dropped by $11.2 million, reflecting reduced diesel and gasoline imports, while Designated Processing Areas saw a $2 million contraction.

On the export side, Belize earned $61.2 million in July, down 3.4 percent compared to the same month last year. Citrus and molasses led the declines, though sugar, marine products, and red kidney beans helped offset some of the losses.

Export destinations shifted notably: while U.S. demand weakened, the United Kingdom became Belize’s top market, with sugar exports to the UK climbing to $23.1 million, almost quadrupling last year’s value.
