By Belize Live News Staff: The village of Santa Martha in Northern Belize was jolted by violence on Friday when 68-year-old Esthel Trapp was bludgeoned to death, allegedly by farm caretaker Eugene Ramirez.
According to police, Ramirez confessed to striking Trapp with a hammer after what he described as an argument. He then phoned police to report what he had done.
ACP Hilberto Romero explained: “The call was brief; he mentioned that there was an argument, and he had caused injuries to the female, and she was motionless.”
Investigators have not confirmed whether there had been ongoing disputes or threats leading up to the killing. Both Ramirez and Trapp had reportedly been living in isolation at the farm.
Ramirez was taken into custody without incident and is expected back in court in November.
