By Belize Live News Staff: Belizeans can expect mainly fair weather conditions today, according to the latest forecast from the National Meteorological Service.
Forecasters say the day will bring mostly sunny skies with a few cloudy spells, while tonight will be clear to partly cloudy. Showers and thunderstorms will be generally isolated, although southern areas could see a few more later in the day.
Winds will blow from the east at 10 to 20 knots, with sea conditions starting light choppy and becoming moderate. Waves are expected to increase from 2 to 4 feet to between 4 and 6 feet.
Temperatures remain hot, with highs reaching 95°F inland, 87°F along the coast, and 80°F in the hills. Overnight lows will dip to 73°F inland, 82°F on the coast, and 68°F in the hills.
In the tropics, Hurricane Erin was located early this morning about 435 miles north of Bermuda, moving northeast at 22 mph with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. Erin poses no threat to Belize. A tropical wave in the central Atlantic, identified as AL99, has a medium chance of development as it tracks westward. Another system, AL90, located east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands, has a high chance of development within the next 48 hours. Neither system currently threatens Belize.
Looking ahead, forecasters predict that Saturday and Saturday night will bring isolated showers and thunderstorms, with the south once again expected to experience more rainfall during the night.
