By Belize Live News Staff: A Salvadoran vendor was the victim of an armed robbery on Monday morning at Pound Yard Market, right in front of her husband.
Police responded just after 5:30 a.m. to a report from 35-year-old Lissette Martinez, who said she had just finished purchasing vegetables and was walking back to her husband’s vehicle when a man approached her. Moments earlier, she had noticed the man loitering near a pharmacy.
According to Martinez, the suspect pulled what appeared to be a black firearm from his waist and demanded money. Fearing for her life, she handed over more than $1,200 in cash. The man then fled the scene, reportedly riding off toward Orange Street.
Police have canvassed the area and located surveillance footage, but so far the suspect remains unidentified.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Belize City police.
