By Belize Live News Staff: A Belize City man is recovering after a violent early morning encounter that ended in gunfire along Central American Boulevard. The incident occurred around 5:20 a.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
24-year-old Wayne Welch, a construction worker, was reportedly in front of Sun Led when he was approached by two unknown men on a motorcycle. One of the men got off and confronted Welch, leading to a physical struggle. During the altercation, Welch was shot but managed to gain control of the firearm and returned fire.
Both suspects quickly escaped in the direction of Fabers Road. Police later found Welch at the KHMH suffering from gunshot wounds. He was treated and issued a medico form.
Scenes of Crime investigators processed the area. While no expended shells were located, officers collected blood swabs and retrieved a firearm believed to have been used in the incident
