By Belize Live News Staff: Former Southern Regional Hospital administrator Nasley Sommerville, previously dismissed from the public service in 2015 for suspected embezzlement, is once again in legal trouble, this time for forgery and theft in the private sector.
Sommerville, now working as an accountant for Mid South Investment Ltd., a sister company of Maya King in Dangriga, was arrested and charged on Friday with forgery and three counts of theft.
Jenny Shadiny Zabaneh, owner of Maya King, reported to police that Sommerville had been manipulating company funds. On July 23rd, Zabaneh issued cheque #442 for $10,000 to Meridian Enterprise Ltd. and returned it to Sommerville for deposit. However, Zabaneh later found that a different cheque had been deposited.
Further investigation revealed two unauthorized cheque books in use, one in the 400-series recorded by the company, and another in the 200-series processed by the bank. Zabaneh suspects Sommerville was forging signatures on the 200-series cheques and diverting funds.
A search warrant led to the seizure of two cheque books and cheque #442 from Sommerville’s office. She was taken into custody and charged.
