By Belize Live News Staff: The Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing (MIDH) is appealing to Belizeans to stop destroying road signs by using them for shooting practice.
According to a recent public announcement, the Ministry has observed a troubling trend of road signs riddled with bullet holes. While recognizing that licensed firearm holders require training, MIDH reminded the public that there are designated facilities for such activities and that using road signs as targets is not only illegal but dangerous.
“These signs are essential for driver safety and are purchased with taxpayer dollars,” the Ministry stated. “They’re not meant for target practice.”
The damage has forced the Ministry to replace signs frequently, drawing on limited public funds. The MIDH is urging all firearm owners to act responsibly and help maintain the safety and integrity of the country’s road infrastructure.
For those who witness such acts, the Ministry encourages reporting incidents to the authorities.
