By Belize Live News Staff: The Ministry of Health and Wellness has officially declared the recent measles outbreak contained after more than two months of monitoring and no new reported cases.
In a statement released this week, health officials confirmed that no new measles infections have been detected for two full incubation periods, a clear indicator that the outbreak has been successfully controlled.
The outbreak, which began in early April 2025, was linked to international travel to Mexico and affected 34 unvaccinated individuals in the Corozal and Cayo Districts. Only one person required hospitalization, and no deaths were reported.
The Ministry praised frontline health workers and the public for swift cooperation in vaccination and containment measures, noting that continued vigilance remains important, especially in border communities.
Health officials are now focusing on increasing immunization coverage, particularly among children and vulnerable populations, to prevent future outbreaks.
