Forbes highlights Belize as one of the best places for Americans to retire in 2025

By Belize Live News Staff: As Americans reassess retirement plans in a post-pandemic, politically divided world, Forbes has spotlighted Belize as a top-tier destination in its 2025 ranking of the best places to retire abroad. The report praises Belize for its affordability, climate, and straightforward immigration process.

Belize was one of only 24 countries selected and stood out for being the only Central American nation with English as its official language. This, according to Forbes, removes a major barrier for Americans seeking a smoother transition abroad.

The Qualified Retirement Program (QRP) is one of Belize’s strongest selling points. The Forbes report notes that the QRP allows foreigners over the age of 45 to obtain residency with proof of just $2,000 USD per month in income. It also offers tax exemptions on income earned outside the country, including Social Security and pension payments.

Popular retiree communities in Belize include Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, Placencia, and Corozal—each offering a distinct coastal or small-town vibe. The article also noted that the cost of living is significantly less than in the U.S., and many Americans live comfortably on monthly budgets well below stateside standards.

While Belize’s healthcare is described as basic, the short travel time to U.S. cities allows retirees to use their Medicare benefits when necessary. In exchange, they get a warmer climate, access to the Belize Barrier Reef, a friendly expat community, and a low-key Caribbean lifestyle.

As Forbes put it, Belize checks nearly every box for Americans seeking an affordable, low-stress life abroad.
