Convicted killer William “Danny” Mason awaits sentencing for kidnapping Mennonite couple

By Belize Live News Staff: Convicted murderer William “Danny” Mason is set to learn his fate on Thursday as the High Court prepares to deliver sentencing on two counts of kidnapping. Mason, who is already serving a life sentence for the gruesome 2016 murder of Dangriga pastor Llewellyn Lucas, faces the possibility of additional decades behind bars.

In May 2025, Mason was found guilty of abducting Mennonite couple Lloyd and Rosie Friesen, a case that resurfaced the disturbing details of his past crimes. On June 30, Mason returned to court alone, without family or friends present, as he and his attorney Peter Taylor entered mitigation pleas. No one came forward to speak on Mason’s behalf.

Justice Nigel Pilgrim indicated earlier this week that more time was needed to weigh the unique and complex elements of the case before deciding how many more years Mason should serve on top of his existing life sentence.

Despite his conviction, Mason has signaled his intent to appeal the kidnapping charges, continuing a legal saga that has haunted Belizeans for nearly a decade. The final sentencing decision is expected Thursday.
