ComPol pushes for 13th amendment following double murder

By Belize Live News Staff: Commissioner of Police Richard Rosado is calling for public backing of the proposed 13th amendment to the Constitution, which would make it easier to declare “special areas” or states of emergency in response to gang violence.

Rosado made the appeal following last weekend’s double murder in Belize City, urging citizens to support the amendment as a unified stand against crime.

“We will use all available legal tools to break the cycle of violence,” he said.

The call was met with criticism, with reporters questioning if the amendment is a way to sidestep existing policing failures.
