Cabinet waives exit tax for visitors from southern Mexico

By Belize Live News Staff: Cabinet has approved a major policy shift aimed at boosting tourism and travel between Belize and neighboring southern Mexican states.

Effective soon, visitors from Campeche, Yucatan, Tabasco, Chiapas, and Quintana Roo will no longer be required to pay exit taxes if their stay in Belize is seven days or less. In addition, a new Visitor’s Digital Border Crossing Card will be introduced to streamline entry procedures.

These visitors will also be allowed to travel with their private vehicles into Belize without being charged import duties, fees, or levies.

The move is expected to improve cross-border tourism and trade, making Belize a more attractive destination for short-term Mexican travelers.
