By Belize Live News Staff: Patrick Faber, once one of the most prominent figures in the United Democratic Party, will return to court on September 16 to face two criminal charges—obstruction of a police officer and aggravated assault upon a police officer.
The charges relate to an incident that took place on April 29, when Faber allegedly obstructed PC#2467 Dante Smith during a traffic stop on Bay Street. Reports indicate that the former minister’s behavior escalated during the stop, leading to formal charges being filed against him.
Today, Faber was served with full disclosure from the prosecution, which includes 23 pages of case material and a CD containing critical evidence. Representing him is attorney Orson “OJ” Elrington, a familiar face in Belize’s legal and political circles.
Faber has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty at an earlier court appearance. He was granted bail in the sum of $1,000.
While the exact contents of the disclosure remain sealed from the public, sources close to the case suggest the evidence will be key in determining whether the case moves toward conviction or dismissal. Faber’s legal team has indicated confidence in their defense, though the upcoming trial is sure to reignite debate about accountability and behavior among public officials.
The case against Faber marks yet another chapter in the political veteran’s turbulent career, as Belizeans wait to see how the legal proceedings unfold in the months ahead.
