Former Belize Ambassador Alexis Rosado indicted for rape in High Court

By Belize Live News Staff: Former Belizean ambassador Alexis Rosado has been indicted in the High Court of Belize on a charge of rape, stemming from allegations that date back to when the complainant was just 13 years old.

Rosado was first arraigned in April 2022 before the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court. The case has since progressed to the High Court due to the seriousness of the charge. This week, Rosado appeared for formal indictment, represented by senior defense attorney Richard “Dickie” Bradley.

According to Bradley, the indictment marks the transition of the case to a full trial phase. “This is where the two sides prepare for court by exchanging depositions, evidence, and expert reports,” Bradley explained.

The charge against Rosado involves both rape and aggravated sexual assault—serious offenses that must be heard before a High Court judge and jury, not a magistrate. The defense and prosecution are now in the process of formal disclosure, which includes all documents that will form part of the evidence in court.

Bradley indicated that Rosado is scheduled to return to court on June 24, 2025, for case management and preliminary matters. He confirmed that Rosado remains out on signed bail, reportedly set between $8,000 and $10,000.

Due to the age of the complainant at the time of the alleged incidents, the court has closed the sessions to the public.
