By Belize Live News Staff: A routine police checkpoint in Belize City was the target of a late-night shooting on Tuesday when a gunman in a passing vehicle fired multiple shots at officers before fleeing the scene.
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. near the New Road checkpoint. According to initial reports, four gunshots were heard as the vehicle sped past, shocking officers stationed at the post. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Police say the attack was sudden and deliberate. An investigation is now underway, with surveillance footage and checkpoints across the city being reviewed to help track down the assailant.
While the motive remains unclear, police say they are treating the case with urgency.
No arrests have been made as yet.
