Customs Officers in the hot seat: Police say charges are coming

By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Police Department is reportedly on the verge of laying charges in a month-long drug investigation that has rocked the Customs Department. The case, linked to a major marijuana shipment smuggled through a freight service, has been under quiet but intense scrutiny. While no drugs were ever found in anyone’s possession, investigators now believe they have the evidence they need.

Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado said the matter is now in the hands of the DPP, and he believes the file contains enough to prosecute at least one person. “We believe it’s a network of individuals involved,” Rosado noted, adding that multiple customs officers remain under active investigation.

Two of the officers who may face imminent charges are reportedly relatives, raising questions about internal oversight and accountability within the department. According to sources, the Police Commissioner has already alerted the Comptroller of Customs, signaling that action is expected soon.
