By Belize Live News Staff: Belize is taking a significant step forward in its fight against climate vulnerability. The Ministry of Economic Transformation (MET) has announced that the country has secured up to BZD $1.9 million (US $950,000) in technical assistance funding from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) to support the development of its Municipal Resiliency Initiative.
The funding, approved under Resolution No. DI-45/2025, will finance critical feasibility studies and expert consultancy services aimed at designing a national climate resilience project. The focus will be on key municipalities across the country, including Dangriga, Orange Walk, Punta Gorda, and Corozal, where vulnerability to climate change is increasing and infrastructure gaps persist.
“This critical support from CABEI allows us to take a proactive step toward building municipalities that are better prepared for the climate realities we face,” said Carlos Pol, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry. “It also reflects our broader strategy to align local development with sustainable, inclusive, and climate-smart solutions.”
The Municipal Resiliency Initiative is set to become a flagship program under Belize’s climate and economic transformation agenda, allowing the government to use data-driven assessments to guide future urban investments. This will include improving essential services, reinforcing public infrastructure, and creating strategies tailored to each community’s unique vulnerabilities.
The Government of Belize extended its deep gratitude to CABEI for this continued show of confidence and support. In a time when climate threats are increasingly shaping national development agendas, this partnership marks a pivotal move toward a more resilient and sustainable future for all Belizeans.
