By Belize Live News Staff: This morning, 21 Belizean nationals were returned home via a United States Government-chartered flight that landed at the Phillip S.W. Goldson International Airport. The repatriation follows official notification received last Friday by the Government of Belize regarding the U.S.’s decision to return several Belizeans.
Over the past few days, Belize’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Culture, and Immigration, in coordination with the Embassy of Belize in the United States and the Belize Police Department, worked to verify the nationality of the individuals and ensure all necessary travel documentation was in order.
The returnees will be processed in accordance with standard repatriation procedures, consistent with how Belizeans are received when sent home by any foreign government.
In a statement, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of Belizeans abroad, regardless of their immigration status. It emphasized that all Belizean citizens are entitled to be treated with dignity under international law and are always welcomed back to their homeland.
