Deadline set: Only registered voters can cast ballots in village elections

By Belize Live News Staff: The countdown is on. The Elections and Boundaries Department has officially issued a reminder: if you want to vote in the 2025 Village Council Elections, your name must be on the voters list at least 30 days before Election Day in your village.

It’s not a suggestion. It’s the law—outlined under the Village Councils Elections (Amendment) Regulations 2022.

With the elections drawing closer, this cut-off date is critical. It’s the dividing line between participating in your local democracy or sitting on the sidelines.

While national elections tend to dominate headlines, village council elections directly influence your day-to-day quality of life, especially in rural communities. These are the people who advocate for roads, lighting, water systems, and local development.

Whether you’ve moved to a new village or haven’t checked your registration in years, now is the time. Don’t assume you’re on the list. Check it.

The Elections and Boundaries Department can be reached at 822-0525 or by email at elections@electbound.gov.bz. You can also visit their website at www.elections.gov.bz.
