By Belize Live News Staff: A fatal shooting on Coney Drive has left a 61-year-old man dead and police searching for answers.
The incident occurred around 8:09 p.m. on May 1st, when the victim was reportedly walking near the corner of Coney Drive and Sunrise Avenue. He was approached by two men on a motorcycle. One of them drew a firearm and fired multiple rounds before fleeing the scene in the direction of Sunrise Avenue.
Police arrived minutes later and found the victim with gunshot wounds to the body. He was pronounced dead at the KHMH morgue shortly before 9:30 p.m..
Crime scene investigators processed the area, retrieving spent shell casings and blood samples. Witnesses in the area have provided initial leads, and police say the investigation is active.
This murder adds to the growing list of gun violence cases in Belize City and raises ongoing concerns about street-level executions carried out by motorcycle assailants.
