By Belize Live News Staff: San Pedro police are investigating two separate incidents that have left two men dead within the span of 24 hours.
The first incident occurred on Saturday, April 26, 2025, when 40-year-old Mexican construction foreman Hever Badal Torres fell to his death at a construction site about 3.5 miles north of San Pedro Town. Torres, who was hauling galvanized zinc sheets as part of roofing work, reportedly stepped onto a weakened section of the structure’s galvanized flooring, causing it to collapse beneath him. He was found unresponsive under the building and later pronounced dead at the San Pedro Polyclinic.
Less than a day later, on Sunday, April 27, an American national died after falling from the fifth floor of the Watermark Hotel in San Pedro, where he had been renting a condominium. Police were called to the scene and found the man lifeless. Surveillance footage is being reviewed to determine whether the fall was accidental, intentional, or involved foul play. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family.
Officials are treating both deaths as separate incidents but are ramping up investigations into safety standards at construction sites and general public safety concerns.
Updates are expected in the coming days as post-mortem examinations and forensic reviews continue.
