By Belize Live News Staff: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has issued a sharp rebuke to Tracy Panton and her supporters, dismissing a recent gathering held on April 5 as a “fake meeting” and reaffirming its stance on the party’s leadership.
In an official press release, the UDP declared that the April 5 event—organized by Panton and others—was not recognized as a legitimate meeting of the National Party Council. The statement goes on to reject what it described as “false claims” by the Alliance for Democracy Party regarding UDP leadership and party decision-making structures.
“The UDP rejects Panton’s claims to the leadership by way of the disputed October 20th event in which she crowned herself Queen of the UDP,” the party stated.
The internal conflict within the UDP has been escalating in recent months, with ongoing disputes over who holds legitimate authority. The statement reiterated that until a ruling is made by the High Court on the matter, the leadership remains with the current duly elected and appointed Central Executive Committee members.
The release concluded with a call for the public and party members to disregard unauthorized meetings and remain aligned with the established leadership.
